Fly Fishing Line

The line that is used in fly fishing is generally a lot heavier than other lines that are used in other types of fishing out there. This is because of the casting, when you are casting you are using the weight of the line to get the fly out there, the fly is almost always lighter than the line is. In other types of fishing, you are using the weight of the lure, and sometimes additional weights to cast the line, in fly fishing it is completely opposite. Most fly fishing line is coated in a type of plastic, and the average length of fly line is about 90 feet, although when fishing saltwater this can be a lot longer due to bigger sized fish making longer runs. The weight of the line must be perfectly matched up with the weight of the fly rod, they are measured from 1 weight to 15 weight, according to the American Sportfishing Association. So it would be wise to make sure you have the same weight for both the line and the rod for maximum casting ability, you don't want to lose any monster trout because of it.
